STL Student Union (“STLSU”)

STL Student Union is the student representative body of law school. Since its establishment in 2010, STL Student Union is committed to promoting the development of the college and safeguarding the interests of students. Members of the Student Union adhere to the principle of “representing students, relying on students, and for students” and continue to work hard to promote student development and defend for students’ rights. On the road of pursuing independence, democracy, and unity, we sincerely serve our students and work hard to become the bridge of communication between students and STL.

Public Interest Law Foundation (“PILF”)

PILF is a student association jointly guided by the Communist Youth League of Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School Committee and Peking University School of Transnational Law. PILF’s aim is to promote students’ public interest in legal practice. We focus on specific areas, including publicity of law, legal aid, organization of visiting legal institutions, and public welfare funding.

Since its reorganization in 2021, PILF has undertaken more than 200 legal aid cases such as labor disputes, contract disputes, tort disputes, and family disputes, written nearly 800,000 words of consultation response letters, and received more than 50 letters of thanks in different forms. In addition, PILF has organized more than 50 activities in cooperation with various social entities such as Zhong Lun Law Firm, Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), and Lihu School.

In addition, PILF has held 8 Public Interest Law Auctions. Through the public welfare auctions, we raised money and funded STL students to go to the United Nations Development Program, the World Bank, Beijing Zhicheng Public Welfare Lawyers Team, Beijing Qianqian Law Firm to conduct pro bono internships. During the past few years, we won the honors such as Extingusished Student Associations of Peking University, Top Ten Volunteer Teams of Peking University, and Top Ten Outstanding Student Associations of Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School.

Intellectual Property Association (“IPA”) Founded in November 2

Founded in November 2012, the Peking University Student Intellectual Property Association (PKU-IPA) is the earliest student academic organization established by STL. Origninated from STL, IPA is oriented to all universities and departments in Shenzhen University Town, and its main interest is intellectual property protection (patents, copyrights, trademarks and anti-unfair competition). At present, the association has dozens of members, and closely focuses on the theme of “intellectual property” to carry out professional lectures, internal training, institutional visits, legal services, symposium salons and other activities. The current supervisor of the association is Associate Professor Joy Xiang of Peking University School of Transnational Law.

Since its establishment, IPA has won many honors such as the Top Ten Student Associaitons of Peking Unicersity Shenzhen Graduate School. IPA members also have won various awards at all levels such as the Jessup Moot Court, International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition, and BFSU-WANHUIDA Intellectual Property Moot Court. Many members of IPA have taken intellectual property-related jobs and contributed to the career of intellectual property protection.

Peking University Intellectual Property Association

Investment Bank & Law Firm Association (“ILA”)

The Investment Bank & Law Firm Association (ILA) was established in 2009 by PHBS and STL. ILA concentrates on the operation dynamics of the primary capital market domestically and internationally, takes the financial and legal analysis of industry standards as the focus, emphasizes the integration of members’ capabilities with industry requirements, and provides a platform for members who are interested in engaging in capital market-related business in the future to exchange knowledge, develop their capabilities, broaden their horizons and accumulate resources.

ILA effectively integrates the learning and employment resources of STL and PHBS. ILA adheres to the principle of “small but sophisticated”, and continues to attract outstanding members from different disciplinary backgrounds to ensure members to communicate and make progress together.

ILA regularly conducts high-quality internal training activities, focusing on investment banking practices and cases, and cultivating members’ industry research capabilities. The internal training adopts a comprehensive model of “intra-college+ cross-college” which is carried out in the form of “voluntary + distribution”. ILA selects popular topics, conducts in-depth cooperation, and joint utilize the unique advantages of the association’s “finance + law” integration.

Society of Women in Law (“SWL”)

Founded in 2010, SWL is the first student association among the top 100 law schools in China to focus on women’s right in legal profession. SWL aims to promote gender equality, pay attention to women’s development, and promote public understanding and analysis of social issues and public affairs in China and the world.

SWL provides opportunities for its members to network and interact with alumni, senior professionals, entrepreneurs and sociologists to enhance their academic foundations, achieve personal fulfillment, and support their future careers. SWL hopes to cultivate members’ sense of social responsibility, improve their thinking ability and promote their willingness to participate in public affairs by organizing various activities, and hope to help members better understand the social reality and adapt to the requirements of future careers. In the past year, SWL has collaborated with the Social Responsibility Advocate (SRP) to conduct “Overseas Chinese Women Protection Project”, and worked with outstanding volunteers to complete the anti-domestic violence law manuals in Portugal and Italy. At the same time, activities such as ShoWtaLk were also carried out to discuss diverse issues.

Student Debate Association (Nanyan Debate Team)

The predecessor of the Student Debate Association of Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School was the Nanyan Debate Team, which was officially registered as a student association on September 1, 2020.

Student Debate Association has a streamlined staff structure, a professional competition preparation mode, and has made numerous achievements since its establishment. In the competition, members attaches great importance to facts and arguments, the debate style is elegant and pragmatic, and the analysis of the debate topic is straight but deep which is widely praised by the public. Student Debate Association actively participates in influential national competitions and large-scale events in Shenzhen, and continues to create better results on the basis of the past impressive awards. Student Debate Association won the championship of the “Thinking Star” Shenzhen College Student Speculation Contest (setting a record of winning the championship for four consecutive years and winning the Best Memorandum Award), the championship of the 23rd Shenzhen Reading Month Debate Competition, and member Wang Chenyu won the runner-up of the 10th International Chinese Debate Invitational Tournament on behalf of Peking University, and won the best oralist in the whole process.
