STL Hosts 2017 Forum on Securities Compliance Litigation


On August 25, 2017, Peking University School of Transnational Law co-sponsored and hosted the 2017 Securities Compliance Litigation Forum, organized by the Financial Law Committee of the Guangdong Lawyers Association. Additional co-sponsors included the Financial and Legal Professionals Committee and Securities Law Committee of the Guangzhou Lawyers Association, and the Financial Law and Securities Law Committees of the Shenzhen Lawyers Association.  More than 100 lawyers from Guangdong Province attended the Forum, along with STL students and faculty.

The Forum was chaired by Zhou Xuan, Director of the Financial Law Committee of the Guangdong Lawyers Association and a partner of Jingtian & Gongcheng Law Firm. Director Zhou remarked that the financial sector is the most active area of legal services driven largely by securities compliance issues and litigation.

STL Dean Philip McConnaughay offered a welcome and observed that the Guangdong Lawyers Association and STL share a goal of contributing to a Chinese legal profession capable of serving an advanced internationalized economy and that is recognized as among the best in the world.

Wang Chengjie, General Manager of Legal Compliance at Guohai Securities Company, and Liu Siyuan, a partner of Jingtian & Gongcheng Law Firm, made keynote presentations. Wang Chenjie discussed strategies for dealing with securities compliance litigation and Liu Siyuan discussed practice skills for securities fraud cases.

Director Zhou concluded the Forum by complimenting the outstanding skills and abilities of STL graduates. She expressed her expectation of their future contributions and influence in the legal market.
