Liav Orgad is a Distinguished Scholar in Residence at Peking University School of Transnational Law, the Director of the Research Group “Global Citizenship Governance” at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, the European University Institute (EUI), Head of the Research Group “International Citizenship Law” at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center, Faculty Member at the Berlin Graduate School for Global and Transregional Studies (BGTS), and an Associate Professor at the Lauder School of Government, Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya. His research focuses on global governance, technological innovation, digitalization, international migration, citizenship studies, and constitutional identity. In recent years, Orgad was a Faculty Fellow at the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University, a Visiting Professor at Columbia Law School and FGV Direito Rio, a Marie Curie Fellow at Freie Universität Berlin, a Fulbright and Rothschild Scholar at NYU Law School, and a Jean-Monnet Fellow at the EUI. He is the recipient of the European Research Council “Starting Grant” (1.5 million Euro).
Orgad has published in the American Journal of Comparative Law (Oxford), American Journal of Law & Economics (Oxford), American Journal of International Law (Cambridge), International Journal of Constitutional Law, ICON (Oxford), Canadian Journal of Law & Jurisprudence (Cambridge), and German Law Journal (Cambridge). He is currently writing a book, The Future of Citizenship: How Technology Shapes Membership and Belonging (Cambridge University Press, under contract). His previous book manuscript, TheCultural Defenseof Nations: A LiberalTheoryof Majority Rights, was published by Oxford University Press (Oxford Constitutional Theory, 2016).
Orgad’s research was awarded the Russell Sage Presidential Authority Award and the Israel Science Foundation Grant. He has won numerous prizes, among them the Eric Stein Prize for the “best article” by the American Society for Comparative Law, and been granted various scholarships, among others, Fulbright, Jean-Monnet, Marie Curie, ISEF, and Global Young Faculty Fellowship. He is a Member of the Global Young Academy and the Young Academy of Europe.
