STL Program on Law and Innovation (SLI)

The STL Program on Law and Innovation delves into the intricate, reciprocal relationship between law and technology, examining how each shapes the other. The program addresses pressing legal challenges arising from scientific and technological advancements, and seeks to connect China to the world through a transnational legal perspective. It promotes programming and research at STL on a wide range of innovative technologies, such as AI, platform regulation, blockchain, neuroscience and genetic engineering. The program's interdisciplinary approach bridges the gap between law, philosophy, ethics, computer sciences, social psychology, and empirical social science. Bringing together experts from diverse fields, the program gains a deeper understanding of the historical precedents, current implications, and future directions of technological transformations, and how they can be effectively addressed within the framework of law, governance, and politics. Emphasizing cutting-edge issues, the program engages in policy consulting, applied research, and dialogue with stakeholders in the tech industry. It provides thought leadership and practical solutions to navigate the complex legal and regulatory landscape surrounding innovative technologies while exploring how the law can be harnessed to drive further innovation and progress. The STL Program on Law and Innovation has three primary outcomes: academic research, policy impact, and professional training. To achieve these goals, the program fosters a dynamic research environment through academic events, sponsored research, and engagement with the private and public sectors. The program is co-directed by Professors Ray Campbell, Liav Orgad and Gilad Abiri
