PKU Shenzhen Research Center for Regional and National Law

PKU Shenzhen Research Center for Regional and National Law (hereinafter the Center) at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School is a key research base for Humanities and Social Sciences in Shenzhen, approved to be set up in 2023. The Center is a comprehensive academic platform of Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, which undertakes the four major functions of academic research, academic exchange, think tank, and talent cultivation. Based on the School of Transnational Law (STL) of Peking University, the Center actively responds to the call of the state to strengthen the research on foreign-related rule of law, integrates the academic resources of Shenzhen Graduate School of Peking University, and receives strong support from the Institute of Area Studies of Peking University. The Center is a full implementation of the idea of "North-South Linkage, Innovation and Integration" of Shenzhen Graduate School of Peking University, and also another major achievement in building a high-level research platform and carrying out the school’s strategy of “Year of International Strategy”.

The Center aims to give full play to the professional advantages of STL in foreign-related and transnational legal research, the talent advantages of top international experts, and the geographic advantages of being located in Shenzhen and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, to integrate the resources of the university and the society, to strengthen the exchanges and cooperation between domestic and foreign academics, industries and the government, and to create an open communication platform where area studies and legal research are integrated. The Center will serve the foreign-related legal needs of state organs, social organizations, enterprises, and institutions by providing foreign-related legal consulting advice, legislative advice, enterprise consulting, talent training, and other activities.

The office of the Center is located in STL, with Professor HUANG Hui presiding over its daily operation. At present, with the enthusiastic participation of the faculty, students, and alumni of Peking University, the Center has formed research teams on legal studies related to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area U.S. Law, EU Law, and Islamic Law according to regions and countries. Meanwhile, the Center has set up thematic study groups composed of students, teachers, and practice experts around topics such as AI policy and risk regulation, digital government and rule of law, risk prevention of cross-border investment by Chinese enterprises, corporate global governance, international investment arbitration, and comparative legal research of family and inheritance.

As an incubator for research and teaching on the foreign-related rule of law, the Center cordially invites academic institutions at home and abroad to cooperate and draw on each other’s strengths.
