Celebrating the Class of 2014

Peking University School of Transnational Law celebrated 64 graduates at its third commencement ceremony on Friday, June 27, 2014.

Dean Philip McConnaughay delivered opening remarks addressing the accomplishments of the class of 2014. “You are a class of trailblazers…You secured internships with leading law firms and companies and NGOs all over the world that have opened doors for all of the STL students who will follow – with the ACLU, with the Asia Development Bank, with the United Nations, with the Supreme People’s Court, with the international arbitration centers in Kuala Lumpur, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Shenzhen; and with leading law firms throughout China, U.S., the U.K., and the E.U.”

In the class of 2014, 25 students studied abroad in Germany, England, Italy, France, and the United States; 10 students founded the Peking University Transnational Law Review; and 2 were members of the STL’s China National Champion Jessup Moot Court Team. Students will work at leading Chinese and foreign law firms, Fortune 100 companies, state-owned enterprises as well as NGOS and public interest organizations around the world. Two students will continue post-doctoral studies at Harvard and Hong Kong University.

Founding Dean and Chancellor of STL, Jeffrey Lehman, charged the class to commit to being respectful and honest professionals. “Being respectful means being respectful of every person you interact with… Being honest means ensuring that your integrity can never be questioned, that you are famous for always doing the right thing… Being a professional means making sure that your work is always the very best you can do. Just good enough is never good enough for an STL graduate.”

STL graduates and families joined faculty and staff for a post-ceremony reception.

[The STL experience] will be with you forever, a reservoir of people and memories that you can draw upon in time of need for support or simply shared good times.
