Professor Sang Yop Kang Published a Book in Korea


Recently, Professor KANG Sang Yop (강상엽; 姜尚烨) published a book (written in Korean), entitled Regulation on Corporate Groups (대기업집단 규제론). The book is coauthored with Professors SHIN Hyun-Yoon and HONG Myung-Soo, leading antitrust and competition law scholars in Korea. In this book, the three authors explain the current business situation of corporate groups in Korea, ownership structures, and the law and regulation based on the Fair Trade and Monopoly Regulation Act (FTMRA) and policies of the government, in particular, the Korea Fair Trade Commission. They critically analyze the regulation based on various analytical tools including a law-and-economic framework. Authors also cover the platform businesses (by corporate groups which have been recently rising) and IT industries issues, and they put forward policy suggestions.

Professor Kang currently pursues further research on businesses and regulations on platform companies and IT industries (including Fintech) in China and other jurisdictions.

Professor Kang is Professor of Law (full professorship with tenure) at Peking University, School of Transnational Law. He teaches and researches in the areas of corporate governance, corporate law (general theory; US; Korea; China), securities regulations, M&As, law and economics, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), capital markets, financial market regulations, banking policies and regulations, startups and venture capitals, competition law (anti-trust), the 4th industrial revolution, platform businesses, corporate groups, institutional investors, hedge funds and private equity funds, shareholder activism, institutional investors’ stewardship, law and finance, executive compensation, Chinese economic policies, Chinese corporate governance, East Asian economies and legal systems, political economy, etc.

Professor Kang holds J.S.D. (Doctor of the Science of Law) degree at Columbia University School of Law. He is a Research Member of the ECGI (European Corporate Governance Institute), the most prestigious global academic association for the corporate governance scholarship (law, economics, and finance). Professor Kang is a lawyer. As a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) and a FRM (Financial Risk Manager) charter-holder, Professor Kang actively engages in the interdisciplinary research on business, finance, technology, and even politics as well as law and economics.
