The First “State of STL” Event was Successfully Held


On December 15, 2023, Peking University School of Transnational Law (STL) hosted the first “State of STL” event in the hall of STL building. This event brought together students, faculty, alumni and distinguished guests from law firms, corporations and legal institutions. Attendees had the opportunity to review STL’s remarkable achievements, gain insights into STL’s future directions and watch a series of exciting artistic performances by STL members.

The event commenced at 7:30 pm with theRoche Limit Band’s performance of “New Boy”. Mark Feldman,InterimDean of STL, delivered the opening remarks, underscoring the profound significance of this event and expressing gratitude for the dedication of both faculty and students. Dean Feldman recounted the “milestone moments” of the past year and emphasized STL’s commitment to cultivating globally-minded and internationally competitive legal professionals, solidifying its reputation in the legal field, both domestically and internationally. Dean Feldman also highlighted the challenges and opportunities awaiting STL in the coming year and expressed the commitment to the development of STL.

The “Peking University School of Transnational Law α Student Career Development Fund Program” was officially launched. Guangdong Alpha Law Firm generously donated the fund to STL, Zhang Chenli, Assistant Dean of STL, served as the host for the announcement.

Following the announcement, the Broadway music drama “Hamilton” narrated the historical stories of several American founding fathers, presenting an unforgettable audio-visual feast for the audience. After the performance, Assistant Dean Christian Pangilinan, Zhang Chenli, Zhong Xiaojin, and Student Union President Xu Yanrui drew lucky winners for the third prize. The following soulful melody of the solo singing “Breakaway” and the energetic K-pop dance “Drama” immersed the audience in the emotional depth of the music. Consequently,AssociateDean Mao Shaowei unveiled the lucky winner of the second prize. The Careful Bee Band then took the stage, performing classic tracks such as “Every Gaze is Alone in the Wilderness” “Let It Be” and “Lonely Seaside”. The performance elevated the atmosphere of the evening once again.

As the curtain fell on the performance, Dean Mao Shaowei delivered the closing remarks. He reviewed the remarkable achievements of STL, shedding light on the future opportunities and challenges. He expressed gratitude to all participants for their support for STL and eagerly enticipated their continued support in the future. Dean Mao Shaowei unfolded his expectations for STL’s forthcoming successes, urging everyone to embark on a new journey and contribute to achievements in new missions. After that, all participants gathered in the Hua Café to enjoy refreshments while engaging in deep discussions with invited guests.

As the night deepened, Dean Mark Feldman and Mr. Xie Qingsong revealed the final lucky winners of first prize and the special prize. Laughter and cheers filled the air, marking the conclusion of the celebration. The event not only celebrated past achievements but also set the stage for an optimistic future for STL.
