CUI Can

Partner, Co-Leader, Asia Life Sciences, Goodwin Proctor LLP

Dr. Can Cui is a partner in Goodwin’s Life Sciences group and a co-leader of the firm’s Life Sciences practice in Asia. His practice focuses on technology transactions and investment in the life sciences industry, especially those transactions related to China, including cross-border technology licensing and acquisition, collaboration and strategic partnership, joint venture (JV), and other forms of investment. Dr. Cui has extensive experience representing both licensors and licensees in U.S.-China life sciences licensing transactions. In private equity and venture capital transactions, he regularly represents institutional and individual investors, established life sciences companies and startups in intellectual property (IP) due diligence and the negotiation and drafting of related investment documentation. He also advises clients on IP aspects of mergers and acquisitions. Dr. Cui holds a Ph.D. of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology from Harvard University, and received his J.D., magna cum laude, from New York University School of Law.

While working in Hong Kong at his prior law firm, Dr. Cui was an adjunct faculty member at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). During his three-year tenure at CUHK Faculty of Law, he taught the Principles of Intellectual Property course to J.D. students, and established CUHK’s Chinese IP Law course.

GUO Xin (Jolie)

GuoXin (Jolie) is the Vice President of Beijing LexPR Consulting Co., Ltd., which focuses on services related to cross-border dispute resolution (especially arbitration). Jolie received her J.M. and J.D. from Peking University School of Transnational Law (STL). At STL, Jolie actively took part in Vis Moot and won national prizes. After graduation, she worked for Beijing International Arbitration Center as a Counsel. Then, she joined a Chambers Band 1 law firm team. Jolie was a licensed PRC lawyer before becoming an entrepreneur.

Cindy KO

Managing Associate, Stephenson Harwood

Cindy is a tri-qualified lawyer in Singapore, Hong Kong, and England & Wales, and has experience working in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. She has almost ten years of experience in dispute resolution, specialising in marine and international trade matters.

Cindy acts in commercial shipping, offshore, and international trade disputes. She has extensive experience in handling a full range of dry shipping and wet shipping matters, and acts for owners, charterers, and P&I Clubs. She is also involved in various cross-border commodities trading and related trade financing disputes. She has also had experience working on heavylift related matters.

Apart from marine and international trade work, Cindy also has experience with managing a broad range of Chinese-related commercial disputes for both Chinese and foreign parties, including joint venture and shareholder disputes and hotel management disputes.

Cindy has had experience in numerous litigation and arbitrations across various jurisdictions, including Singapore, Hong Kong, China, London and Mauritius.

Prior to joining Stephenson Harwood, Cindy practised at the shipping and international trade department of the largest law firm in Singapore.

In 2023, Cindy was recognised by Legal 500 as a "Rising Star" lawyer in the Shipping Disputes sector.

Alfred LEUNG

Partner, YTL LLP

Alfred advises corporates, family offices, private equity and start-ups in corporate transactions, including cross-border acquisitions, dispositions, leveraged buyouts, financings (debt and equity), restructurings, funds formation, and joint ventures. In addition, he has represented clients in a wide array of technology transactions. He regularly counsels executives and companies in corporate governance and reporting obligations and also represents clients in regulatory and criminal matters involving the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), and the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (HKEx). Alfred is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a member of the CPA (Australia), and has been awarded with the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ specialist qualification in insolvency.

John MOORE

Partner, Slaughter and May

John is a partner in the Hong Kong office of Slaughter and May and the co-head of the firm’s capital markets practice in Asia. John is US and Hong Kong qualified and represents investment banks, corporations and private equity funds on capital markets, M&A and private equity transactions.

He has extensive experience acting for underwriters and issuers on high value and complex securities transactions, equity placings and convertible bond issues, including SEC-registered, Rule 144A/Regulation S and Rule 144 offerings. John has also advised on pre-IPO equity acquisitions and subscriptions.

John spent a number of years as a senior in-house counsel at Goldman Sachs. He was also a partner and co-head of the China capital markets practice at a US firm and a partner and head of the US securities and capital markets practice for Asia at a leading international firm.

John served for several years as Deputy Chairman of the Listing Committee of the Main Board and the Growth Enterprise Market of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

John is named in the 2022 Legal 500 Asia Pacific Hall of Fame for Capital Markets (Equity) in Hong Kong. He is also recognised as a Highly Regarded Lawyer in the 2022 IFLR1000 Asia-Pacific for Capital Markets: Equity in Hong Kong, and in the 2022 Chambers Greater China for Capital Markets: Equity (International Firms), China.
